Oscar 2016 Nomination Prediction’s

The race for the 2016 Oscars has been a long and arduous one. With surprise films such as “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Straight Outta Compton,” and “The Martian” competing with Oscar friendly movies such as “Carol” and “Bridge of Spies”, the year has been full of great performances, but only a select few can take home the gold.

While most of the categories are locked in, the best picture, best director, and extra spots in the supporting actor categories are up in the air. Depending on how the Academy goes with determining “Carol” and “The Danish Girl’s” supporting actresses, the female races could be wide open, or already be sealed.

Because of the unpredictability of the current awards and various guild standings, the best director category is tough and crowded. Veteran directors George Miller, Steven Spielberg, and Ridley Scott are going up against the much lauded directors of “Carol” and “The Big Short.” Meanwhile, “The Revenant’s” recent sweep at the Globes enters the “Birdman” winner back into the race. Lastly, the former front-runner “Spotlight” director, Tom McCarthy, is beginning to lose momentum at the final stretch of the race.

The best picture category is also wide open, with only five films technically locked in, the open field of worthy talent may end up canceling each other out if the films fail to get enough votes. While the films mentioned earlier are prime to get a nomination, films like “Beasts of No Nation,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Room,” “Ex Machina,” and “The Hateful Eight” are all fighting for the few remaining spots.
